Universe

"A Show, a Show, a Universe for a Show" roll eyes (sarcastic)

To be serious, A Universe represents the range of channels of one "DMX cable".
(uh, Fokko, physically? confused more on this later, I am just testing some features
A DMX cable serves up to 512 addresses (slots or channels).
As larger installations often need more then 512 channels, you can add one or more universes.
info tell me more...hide...

  In the lighting editor channels are addressed in a linear way:
  2 universes therefore cover the address-range from 0001-1024
  (Univers 1 ranges: 0001-0512, Universe 2 ranges: 0513-1024 etc

Or in Universe-"language" {<Universe>:<DMX-Address>}
  1:213 = Universe: 1, DMX address: 0213
  3:024 = Universe: 3, DMX address: 0024 thumbs up
warning LCedit+ uses only linear addressing for the scenes!
means what? does it use other addressing as well?
if it uses nothing else but linear, it should be named as "exclusively"

We count light channels from 1-3072 (LCX), and you can map -any- block of channels to a DMX output (universe). So as counting in multiples of 512 is not really easy, you could map 1-500 to universe 1, 501-1000 to universe 2, etc. Even if it is needed for cabling e.g. you could map channels 1-100 to universe 1, 101-200 to universe 2, etc. OK you need more boxes smile but can save a lot on cabling. -Fokko-

Show

A Show may consist of up to 999 CueList? s, each containing up to 99 of CueSteps? . Each CueStep? may have lighting data (a scene) for up to 3072 channels in a LanBox-LCX.
A Cue? compromises of one or more CueSteps? in a CueList? , and ends with a "hold for ever"-command or the last step of a CueList? .
